Successes

  • Fiscal Responsibility: Maintained a balanced budget and strong credit rating despite regional economic headwinds.
  • Roadway Improvements: Advocate for funding for the I-80 East Widening Project and secured funding for Sparks Boulevard capacity improvements to reduce daily commute times.
  • Hometown Traditions: Expanded community events like Kid’s Free Fishing Day at the Marina, ensuring Sparks remains a family-first community.

True leadership is most evident when times are tough. Faced with a multi-million dollar deficit this past year, I guided the City Council through a series of "hard but necessary" decisions to ensure we passed a balanced budget. We achieved this through disciplined fiscal stewardship, avoiding general tax hikes while continuing to invest in the city’s future.
  • Regional Safety: Appointed to key regional boards to ensure Sparks has a leading voice in Northern Nevada’s public safety and transportation planning.
  • Support Regional Fire: Support the study and explore alternative ways to create a metropolitan or regional fire protection agency.

Public safety remains my absolute top priority. I am proud to have led the launch of the Real-Time Information Center (RTIC), a landmark collaborative effort that uses cutting-edge technology to give our officers a strategic advantage. By integrating live data and camera networks, we are improving response times and keeping both our first responders and our families safer. Even when faced with the difficult fiscal landscape of the 2025/2026 budget cycle, I stood firm in protecting our core public safety functions to ensure that Sparks remains one of the safest cities in Nevada.
Cutting-Edge Tech: Scaled the Drone as First Responder (DFR) program to provide overhead visuals within minutes of a 911 call.
  • Job Creation: Attracted high-tech industries like Redwood Materials to provide high-wage careers for Sparks families.
  • Smart Infill: Championed the redevelopment of downtown and the Truckee River corridor to blend urban energy with our unique hometown character.
  • National Advocacy: Partnered with federal leaders to advance the Truckee Meadows Public Lands Management Act, a critical step in increasing our housing supply and lowering costs.
During my time as your Mayor, we have worked tirelessly to transform Sparks from a "bedroom community" into a self-sustaining economic powerhouse. A cornerstone of this vision is the Kiley Ranch Marketplace, the first major retail power center built in our city in over twenty years. This 400,000-square-foot hub is not just about shopping and dining; it represents a massive boost to our local tax base and brings essential services closer to home. Alongside this, the revitalization of the Oddie District serves as a blueprint for my "work where you live" philosophy, turning underutilized spaces into vibrant centers for creators and entrepreneurs.
