Safety is the core of a family-friendly town

Say             to a Real Hometown

Sports has played an important role in Mayor Lawson’s life. He played football for Colorado State University, which he attended on a scholarship. He later coached his son's team, and became a favorite of Pop Warner parents by taking a special interest in players who needed extra help to succeed.

On Mayor Lawson’s watch, the city maintains facilities for a broad assortment of youth and adult sports. Safe, clean soccer fields and a little league park top the list. Aquatics classes at the Alf Sorensen community pool include H20 Fitness for seniors.

Among the city’s more than 60 parks, Mayor Lawson is especially proud of the city’s two All-Abilities Playgrounds. At the Sparks Marina park kids with physical limitations can try out new activities using adaptive equipment.

Parks and Recreation – Something for Everyone

Mayor Lawson knows safe streets and crime control give families peace-of-mind. On his watch, Sparks police have intensified speeding patrols, removing dangerous drivers from the streets. The city’s NPU – Neighborhood Police Unit – is engaged with the neighborhoods, fostering direct communication with residents.

Smart use of technology is a boon to Sparks police. Mayor Lawson has encouraged automation for time-intensive law enforcement tasks like traffic accident investigations. Drones can quickly assess crimes-in-progress from above, prompting faster and safer deployment of officers. Innovation saves time and money.

Mayor Lawson keeps his eye on the city’s fire stations. A needed Spanish Springs station was recently completed. Other enhancements included new ambulances, a pumper truck, and additional fire fighters for the city-wide force.

No town in America celebrates like Sparks! Attending the city’s celebrations is a must for Mayor Lawson. In casual settings like Star Spangled Sparks on 4th of July, or the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Christmas Parade, the mayor stays close and accessible to Sparks families who pack Victorian Square.

On Mayor Lawson’s watch, Victorian Square got an upgrade. The city helped pave the way for improvements to the plaza surrounding the Nugget Event Center, the Square’s outdoor concert hot spot. Additions like better lighting ensure a safe and enjoyable place for Sparks celebrations
